George Thomas Cranmer Jr. (1848-1939) was born in Barnegat on December 6th, 1848 to George Thomas Cranmer (1821-1851), and Charlotte Shreve Collins (1824-1865). He married Tacy Margaret Conrad (1865-1947) on April 6th, 1893 in Trenton, New Jersey. Together they had one child: Martha Charlotte Cranmer (1895-1901).
He began his career in the real estate and banking industries. In 1875 (until the early 1900s), he was a New Jersey National Guard officer of the 7th Regiment. In 1879, he was appointed Collector of Customs for Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey by President Rutherford B. Hayes. In 1883, he was a member of the New Jersey State House of Assembly from Ocean County. In 1884 (until 1892), he was a New Jersey Republican State Senator. In 1888, he supported Benjamin Harrison for President at the Republican National Convention (RNC). George T. Cranmer was President of the New Jersey State Senate from 1889 to 1892. During his time in the New Jersey Senate, he was the Chairman of many important committees including: Railroad and Canals, Militia, and Lunatic Asylums.
From 1893 to 1938, he was a clerk for the District Court in the District of New Jersey. George T. Cranmer passed away on July 10th, 1939 at the age of 90 and is buried at the Barnegat Memorial Cemetery on West Bay Avenue.
